Shape of Dreams Cetus Guide: Frost Tank Basics

Cetus is the ninth Traveler, added in the Starless Path update. To unlock him, dig through eight snow piles in the snowy mountains. The official achievement for it is called Leviathan on Land, and only 3.4% of players had it at the time of writing, which tells you how easy those piles are to miss.

What Cetus actually does

The developer describes Cetus as a ranged frost tank. He is not a wall of health. He controls where enemies can stand, and he keeps shields on himself and his allies.

• Cold Blood (passive): dealing cold damage gives one stack, up to five. Your next attack consumes every stack, triggers a frost explosion, and grants a shield that decays.
• Embrace the Chill: creates a growing frost zone. Allies inside gain shields every half second, enemies take cold damage, and the zone explodes and stuns when it ends.
• Back Off: coats nearby allies in thin ice for a shield and armour. Hold the cast to charge a swing that knocks enemies back and stuns.

The loop writes itself once you see it: apply cold damage to stack Cold Blood, then fire a basic attack to cash the stacks in for damage and a shield. Frost zones do both jobs at once, which is why the two starting skills matter more than they first appear.

Two directions that work in the first runs

Control support. Take Embrace the Chill, stack Ability Power, and pick Essences that add shields or extend crowd control. You are not the damage dealer; you are the reason the party survives a bad map.

Ranged burst. Take Back Off’s charged swing, prioritise cold damage and critical strikes, and let Cold Blood explosions carry the damage. This direction needs more setup because the explosion only pays out after five stacks.

Either way, look for Memories that add cold damage to your existing attacks. Cetus scales from cold, so a fire or dark Memory on him wastes the passive.

Finding the eight snow piles

The piles spawn in the snowy mountain region. Community runs report that corrupted zones and the merchant rooms tend to hold several, while the open snowfields are sparse. Sweep the edges of each map before you leave, because the piles are small, unlit objects that blend into the snow.

If you finish the objective without the unlock appearing, close the run and start a fresh one. A bug report from the launch week described the activation failing on some attempts.
